A day at the races – retro style

Hello Lovelies,

I have been fortunate enough to have been a guest at the races a few times now and I always have a great time. I must admit I am usually more at home in jeans and a polo shirt with a pair of wellies and a wax jacket than in a posh frock but it’s nice to dress up once in a while isn’t it?

You can get a slight inkling of how the combined outfit might look as its not a million miles away from the style I wore for my wedding in Las Vegas

It will be all WHITE on the night with Scott Cornwall

It will be all WHITE on the night with Scott Cornwall

Hello Lovelies,

As you all know, I’m a bit of a sucker for my hair to be icy white and as cool as my cold stone heart (lol) but if you have ever been on this quest, you’ll know how hard it is to banish those pesky warm tones.

Thankfully I’m a natural blonde so I don’t have too much to contend with but unless I go to a salon….. reaching the perfect cool tones at home is bloody tiresome.

scott-cornwall-colour-restore-iced-platinum-hair-toner-100ml

This is where Scott Cornwalls Colour Restore comes in. It has truly transformed my hair routine and I will not be parted from my trusty tube! Priced at £11.99, you can buy it from exclusively from Boots, www.keepmeinspired.co.uk or directly from the Scott Cornwall Website HERE which accepts a myriad of different payment types including Paypal which gets a humungous thumbs up from me!

Depending on your desired results, the handy, simple instructions give you 3 different ways to tone your hair. A rinse through for subtle toning, a medium length tone for mid level changes and an intensive tone for the full effect.

Ice Platinum promises to do the following wonderful things :

Banishes Yellow and Brassy tones in bleached or highlighted hair.
  • Creates cool to pure white tones
  • Replenishes cool tones in highlighted hair
  • Restores and replenishes hair without the need for a peroxide or ammonia based colourant
  • Can be used frequently and safely to keep that desired cool or pure white tone without damaging the hair.
Does it do that? YES!!
I like to apply the Restore to the top half of my hair and slather the ends with my favourite deep conditioner. I leave the products on between 5-10 minutes depending on how much time I have.
I’m left with gorgeously smooth, cool toned hair with no purple in sight. Yes, purple peril is a danger for all us white hair wonders. As a point of warning, if you have not used a toning product before, be prepared for purpley grey foam and a delightful grey scum ring in the bath from the bath water. It doesn’t stain and is 110% removable, it just doesn’t look very nice!
Since last summer I have been leaving a lot more of my natural blonde to intermingle because I have been disappointed with most comparable products but not any more. 2013 is going to see the return of my white blonde hair and thanks to Scott Cornwall, I will be able to get salon results at home!!!
Money saving!
Colour Restore is also available in ash blonde & red too but as you can imagine, I haven’t actually tried those!

Dr Renaud Hydrating Raspberry Soft Mask

Dr Renaud Hydrating Raspberry Soft Mask

Hello Lovelies,

I will hold my hands up, with real life getting in the way of my blog life and the pressures put on me, I have neglected trying this product to it’s fullest.

My poor skin has been looking appallingly dry, dehydrated and sallow of late so I thought enough enough and on with the mask! Applying the mask is an absolute delight.

The light, fruity scent is very natural and not overpoweringly synthetic and is a cooling, thick, creamy formula. Not too unlike rubbing a posh yoghurt on your face… in the nicest possible way – honest. It’s lovely!

I left the mask on for the full recommended time and then rinsed off. What was left behind was plump, hydrated skin that had lost that horrid grey tinge to it!

Thankfully, being hypersensitive, I have not had any reactions to the mask nor any breakouts as this doesn’t have any harsh astringents or purifying properties that would draw the nasties out of hiding.

I am very careful about what kind of face products I use, and rightly so, but this definitely gets a stamp of approval for sensitive skin that’s lacking in lustre. You can buy the Dr Renauds mask on the Dr Renaud website for £19.45 and also on the M&S website, but it is slightly more expensive but if you’re putting an order in for clothes, why not! Worth every single penny!

A Spook-tacular night with Red Herring Games & Radisson Blu

A Spook-tacular night with Red Herring Games & Radisson Blu

Happy Halloween my not-so-gruesome ghouls ,

Last Friday, Mother Tramp and I took ourselves along to our local Radisson Blu hotel for their Halloween themed Murder Mystery night. When I first saw this advertised I was gutted I couldn’t go as I would be in New York but through a cruel twist of fate, I found myself at a free end as a result of a cancelled holiday. What better way to cheer me and Mam up eh?
I have been to a few of these events before but as it was my Mams first time, it was super exciting all over again. It also helped that the excelled Red Herring Games were running the event (@redherringgames).

We were greeted by witches and ghosts and of course, trick or treat sweet goodies, props and of course, a dead body – Poor Seymour! The cast of actors thoroughly immersed themselves in to their characters and I must say, Inspector Dirk N Stormy was rather handsome – He can arrest me any day! Ooo-er!
As the evening progressed around the 3 course meal, we were given 5 scenes to watch to base our suspicions on and then given the chance to interact with the actors to grill them for their motives. Now I must admit, I’ve never got a murderer right yet, I think I have too much of an overactive imagination but this time, BOOM! Mam and I sniffed out the culprit and won! Couldn’t believe it! Super Sleuths, although I think we are more like Monk than Sherlock Holmes!
As a proud winner, we were given a great big huge certificate and a bottle of wine! If I had known this before, I’d have put more effort in to trying to win previous ones!
The function room was set up with 13 large tables seating around 10 people each so it’s a great fun night out if you are looking for something to do with colleagues or a birthday. The organisational skills of the Radisson staff do leave a LOT to be desired but needless to say we managed to rescue our evening and of course… we went on to win! Huzzah! Don’t worry about not being able to hear the action, this is the first event I have been to that I have seen microphones and mic packs used by the actors, a very professional touch and it really helped everyone be involved without missing a single word!

The obligatory Monster Mash end to the evening!
This isn’t the first time I have been to a Red Herring Games night and it certainly wont be the last. The effort and thought that goes in to each of these ‘plays’ is just outstanding and well worth the cost of the evening.
At the Radisson, I paid £29 per person which included a 3 course meal and the entertainment, as well as a disco afterwards. My only slight criticism (other than the lack lustre organisation) was the lack of dialogue with the waiting staff. They didn’t tell us what food they were giving us, whether it was vegetarian or not etc. Now the pea and ham soup was some of the most delicious I have ever had, but the beef, well I think it was beef was just.. blah. The accompaniments were a bit blah too. I would have liked to have been told of a vegetarian offering. Probably just small niggles after working as a chef and expecting high standards from the Radisson.
Of course, the venue was nothing to do with the quality of the event provided by Jo and her players.
If you ever get the chance to go to a Red Herring evening (check their website for events) or any other murder mystery, I whole heartedly recommend you book up. They are a fantastic night of fun!
My only advice is… do your research. Find out who is performing and have a quick squizz for some reviews on them!

Enjoy the rest of your Halloween!

My Skin Saviours for the changing season

My Skin Saviours for the changing season

Hello Lovelies,

If there is one thing I have noticed since August is my skin has been extremely lack lustre. Given recent events, it’s no surprise really is it?

The extreme mixture of super hot holiday, rubbing at my face with tissues, removing my make up away from home with a wipe or just soap and water (my mother doesn’t have the best stocked beauty bathroom!), puffy skin from crying, the fluctuating temperatures, being run down and the onslaught of harsh heating blasts.

All in all my skin is sending out a ginormous SOS!

In the last week or two I have taken control now i’m feeling better and readdressed my skin care. Needless to say, I have a few absolute GEMS that have seen me through and I thought i’d share them with you….

Make up remover – Elemis Melting Gel Cleanser

I have reviewed this before HERE and it’s the one product I use daily and re-purchase again and again. I’d say it is my holy grail make up remover. Yes it is high end but we are allowed treats aren’t we.

Cleanser – Boots Cold Cream

Again, this is a winter favourite that I have reviewed HERE. I oddly find it too heavy in warmer months to use to cleanse but in Autumn & Winter I love the thick luxurious application and the toasty warm hot flannel  to remove the product. I find this method of cleansing is super gentle on my hypersensitive skin, nourishes the dry flaky dry patches I have been suffering and doesn’t aggrevate any breakouts

Moisturiser – Avene’s Rich Compensating Cream

Great, nourishing, thick moisturiser that is great for sensitive skin and tackles those pesky dry, scaly patches with ease. I find it a little too heavy to wear all day under make up, but I like to remove my make up as soon as I get home from work and apply this so it is nice and settled, soaking in to the skin for a maximum time before my morning wash.

Skin Mist – Avene’s Eau Thermale

You’ve guessed it, reviewed HERE. I have been using this product religiously for a long time now. I travel with it and have a can in my bag and on my desk. I wax lyrical about it. Gentle for sensitive skins, it’s a great post cleanse product to mist and refresh, and if you are hot it cools you down super quick. I have been using it to cool my angry red skin from crying and rubbing at my face, but it’s also great when you have a cold and your nose feels like its on fire.

Make up – GOSH BB Cream

No, no review YET…. but I have been absolutely loving this BB Cream. I had fell out of love with the wave of drug store BB creams as they just didn’t match my requirements but the offering from GOSH is amazing. This product is light enough to feel weightless on the skin but gives a really great, natural looking coverage. I admittedly haven’t felt like wearing make up every day but this just effortlessly evens the skin tone and covers redness and dark circles. My only gripe is this comes in what feels like a TINY tube but it has lasted me absolutely ages!

So there you go, an odd mix, but these few products have really got me through and I thought I’d share
