Review : Proactiv Solution – Green Tea Moisturizer

Review : Proactiv Solution – Green Tea Moisturizer
As part of a recent post about holiday beauty HERE I was determined to give this whole in flight beauty malarky a go and while rooting round my box of smaller sized products I picked out the Proactiv tube to ensure it was within the 100ml plastic bag rule. I had originally been planning on taking the Biotherm Skin Ergetic Concentrate but sadly the active ingredient component of the product made me break out in a rash due to the pureness of it.
This moisturizer truly is the most amazingly fresh, light, cooling scented moisturiser I have ever smelt. It instantly makes you feel refreshed and a little bit more composed. It has a light, almost cucumber like smell to it which I really can’t put in to words how refreshing it feels and smells once you rub it in! And we all know how iffy I am about scented products!
The product is a very light, slightly opaque lotion that spreads easily and is absorbed evenly and quickly. You do get a lot of slip to the product though so a little does go a long way. A small pea will do your full face.
I did cheat during the flight and didn’t take my make up off, but just kept re-moisturising over the top (tsk tsk I know, I don’t know what posessed me!) and not once did it make me feel clammy or overloaded. It just kept on replenishing my dry tight feeling skin with minimal disruption to my slap.
As I’ve mentioned in just about all face related posts, my skin is very sensitive and this didn’t once break me out. Mr T even dabbed a little bit around his eyes after bout 7hrs in to the flight and he said he was amazed at the cooling effect. After about 9hrs I even dabbed a little bit behind my ears and along the back of my neck and it really did perk me up.
I stepped off that plane feeling cool calm and collected, despite having no sleep, and my skin didn’t look bloated, sallow or aggrevated which is a first for me as I usually look like I’ve been dragged through a hedge backwards when I step off a plane!
I have kept the remainder of the tube on my desk as I am that enamoured with the Green Tea Moisturizer and I now know what will forever be in my flight case for travel! It has come in very handy for soothing my tender burnt nose and hairline – Don’t ask! – without aggrevating or smothering the skin any further.
I can imagine this moisturizer coming in handy on those dark dingy mornings of winter when all you wan’t to do is sleep but need to feel pepped and awake at 6am… I’ll probably be reaching for it then too!
You can buy the Proactiv Solution Green Tea Moisturizer in the following way :

I paid to look this good……The cost of a revamp

I paid to look this good……The cost of a revamp

Recently, an email hit my inbox from good old Superdrug and it really intrigued me. As a LTR’r (Been with Mr Tramp for 10yrs in December, and married for 5yr in October) I have never really been in this position, needing to reinvent myself after a break up to cheer me up or put me back on the right track. I do know girlies who have done this though. Saying that, I did get 20+ piercings after one messy break up as a teenager… just because he hated them (don’t ask… seriously!!)

It got me thinking, I have had several “reinventions” over the years but they have mostly been career / lifestyle orientated and probably add up to the same amount as a broken hearted new look.

On landing a huge promotion, I subconsciously found myself swapping my (awesome) white blonde hair for a chocolate brown, losing the day glo nail art for soft neutrals and smartening my work appearance. I didn’t really notice I was doing it over time and it wasn’t until a colleague mentioned it did it hit home. I was working with people (and other managers) who were still wearing casual clothes within IT but I somehow felt like I needed to polish up in order to be taking more seriously.

I also did the same thing the last time I hit the job market, toned my hair down etc etc to put me in the best position. Funny isn’t it!

Few of my friends have also had huge overhauls when they have met new groups of friends, drastically changing their entire appearance / wardrobe just to fit in. Sheesh, that must cost so much and be so hard to keep up?

THE HAIR RAISING COST OF BEING DUMPED

– new Superdrug research reveals the cost of a woman’s post break-up reinvention –

The average single female spends £500 on reinventing herself after being dumped, it was revealed this week.

The findings emerged in a new study, commissioned by Superdrug, of 2,000 women who have found themselves picking up the pieces after a boyfriend decided enough was enough. More than half of those polled admitted they had at some point completely revamped their appearance after an ex-partner left them feeling unwanted and unattractive.

As such, ditched damsels splash out the best part of £496.66 on hair-cuts and colours, a new wardrobe of clothes and shoes, gym memberships, spray tans, make-up and manicures. But three quarters of ladies admitted the reinvention was worth every penny – as they felt a million dollars afterwards.

Simon Comins, Superdrug Director of Toiletries, which commissioned the research, said:

“Being dumped, whether it was on the cards or not, will make even the toughest woman feel awful. This research shows that women start to question what went wrong with the relationship, and feel self-conscious about their looks. So indulging in a new hair-do, a change of hair colour, beautiful bronzed skin and a lovely new wardrobe of clothes can be just the tonic for those who have been heartbroken.”

The study shows jilted women will spend approximately £91.82 on their new hair style – which includes a new cut and colour. To achieve that “just stepped off the plane” look a further £39.41 is spent on spray tans, while luxury manicures and pedicures cost £51.69.Girls who decide to treat themselves to a nice new make-up kit splash out £48.68 on nail varnishes, lipsticks and mascaras. And the new wardrobe – which includes clothes and shoes – sets most back around £183.48. Finally, a fifth of ladies say being dumped is just the incentive they need to do more exercise – and as such spend £81.58 on gym memberships.

Incredibly, the survey found six per cent of all dumped women had even turned to cosmetic surgery – costing in the region of £530 – in a bid to feel sxier following the end of an important relationship. While 14 per cent immediately went on a diet plan to lose the pounds they had gained during the comfortable period of their previous relationship.

But women don’t just spend money on reinventing their image. The survey shows getting back out onto the dating scene also costs a pretty penny. The average single female estimates she spends £70 a week on socialising with friends, on top of the £500 she has forked out on her appearance. And 11 per cent of ladies have even paid around £47 for subscriptions to dating websites, in the hope of finding love again.

Simon Comins of Superdrug continues:
“Life as a single person is far more expensive than when you are part of a couple. So as well as spending more on the upkeep of your appearance, you automatically spend more on socialising with friends. Luckily you don’t need to splash out and spend so much money on hair and beauty, though admittedly retail therapy may make a woman feel better. We’ve seen sales rocket of home hairdressing DIY kits, and home manicure sets as women look to get the salon experience at home.”

costBREAKDOWN OF REINVENTION:

Hair cut and colour – £91.82
Spray tans – £39.41
New clothes – £122.42
New shoes – £61.06
New make-up – £48.68
Manicures / pedicures – £51.69
Gym membership – £81.58
TOTAL = £496.66

That’s just astonishing when you account for the spend like that, you probably don’t think of the grand total whilst sitting in that salon chair with your shopping bags round your feet do you?!

Have you ever had a post break up reinvention? Reached a turning point in your life that made you overhaul?

I’d love to know!

A wrinkle pill?

I spotted a tweet about a new product from Dove Spa which claims to be a pill to eradicate wrinkles, from the inside out.

DOVE SPA STRENGTH WITHIN – SOLD OUT
The exclusive pre-sale batch will launch onto www.dovespa.co.uk this morning, but with a waiting list already exceeding supply; those chasing eternal youth will have to wait for the official launch date in mid October.

Here’s the blurb from the Dove website

Here at Dove Spa we’re for treatments that actually work: that do what they’re supposed to. So we’re really pleased to announce the launch of our new anti‐wrinkle supplement Strength Within, clinically proven to reduce lines and wrinkles with greatest efficacy showing on deeper wrinkles.

Collagen reduction in your skin already starts in your mid‐30s and it can drop up by to 40% between the ages of 35‐55. This is a critical factor leading to a loss of firmness and the formation of wrinkles.

Complement your Dove Spa creams and treatments with Strength Within to combat the signs of ageing from both inside and out.

To achieve the desired results 3 capsules of Strength Within should be taken daily over a 14 week period.

Each box of Strength Within contains 28 days worth of capsules and we recommend purchasing 3 boxes of Strength Within to follow the 14 week program.

Read what the New Scientist think of the beauty breakthrough, including contributions from medical experts:
Richard Weller, a dermatologist at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, UK, applauded Unilever for testing the product against a placebo and for saying it will publish the results in full.
“What matters is the clinical data, and they show there are reduced wrinkles in the treated group,” he says. “I’m not aware of any [other] oral treatments that do this.”

Will you be trying the Strength Within tablets or just write it off as a fad? I’ll probably give it a try but keep a very very open mind about it!

Fashion disaster – The deaths of Evans?

Being one of those frustratingly termed “plus size” ladies, there’s been a barrage of plus size lines and stores on the high street that have come and gone over the years. If after a frantic Saturday trawling round a shopping centre looking for a pair of trousers, it was always a safe bet to go to Evans. The highstreet stalwart for such things.

Back in the day, Evans used to be pretty damn funky with their Seven/7/ Se7en (whatever) range which was definitely aimed at a younger market. No one wants to feel AND look frumpy on a Friday night now do they girls?
Steadily over the years, Evans has (and I know a LOT of you agree) have drastically declined in both their fashion styles, cuts and market pricing. For a while their prices were ridiculous in comparison to Etam / H&M BB / New Look Inspire but they seem to be evening out…. On somethings.

What I’m having a little rant about is sizing, their cuts and of course style. I recently went in to a store to buy a new pair of jeans. Not a hard task right? I’m you’re average “big girl” build, long legs, round tum, big boobs etc etc. I grabbed my size and headed in to the changing rooms. Now I am fully aware of vanity sizing but what I encountered was just diabolical. The jeans wouldn’t go passed my calves they were that tight! I nipped back out for the next size up, still nowhere near etc until I had gone up 4/5 sizes to a 32 and they STILL wouldn’t go all the way up. They weren’t skinnies or jeggings, just your average straight leg jeans. Can you imagine how that made me feel?! Going up a size by choice for a nicer fit is fine but this was just crazy!

I find this to be a regular occurance with Evans in the last year or so. I know I’m not an odd shape so why should this one shop, that is famed for providing clothes to us plus sized hotties be so off the mark? Sadly, the buzz around the interwebs is that I’m not the only one who is being left on the sidelines by Evans.
Let’s not get me started on their offerings on trends. I know no one might want to buy a size 32 mini skirt and sheer leggings and white lace boob tube, but surely if these are the trends, it would be nice to be atleast offered them right, rather than the usual checky blouses and long mumsy tunics with comfortable slacks?Who says fat CAN’T be fabulous? Their Beth Ditto range was an improvement but then again, their prices for her pieces were crazy and probably priced a lot of the younger fashionistas out of buying them which was a shame!

With the uprising in online retailers such as Yours Clothing and the very on trend Simply Be, I don’t understand why Evans are still lagging behind the times. Simply Be are moving in to opening High Street stores and I tell you what, once they roll out in to the mainstream, I really do think it will be the final nail in the Evans coffin.

While out shopping after the Evans jeans debacle, I managed to pick up a bargainous pair of jeans for £11 (in my size), a beautiful smart going out top, a winter coat, a sweater and a belt for the princely sum of £55 in Tesco. Tesco’s plus size range is fab, I must say. Trendy yet classical with on trend prints and colours all at a VERY reasonable price. My thick winter coat was £35, the equivalent would be around £60 in Evans.. So if these clothes can be made so cheaply at such a good quality, why aren’t shops picking up on this and realising just because we’re fat, we don’t want to pay 3x more for something when we don’t need to. I know our clothes take more fabric than your average size 8 but if Tesco + Asda can do it, why can’t Evans? Even Sainsburys offer a select of more on trend plus size clothes at a more reasonable price!

After a long ‘open relationship’ with Evans, I think I am fully ready to put this one to bed, move on and not be a patron of the store any more until they buck their ideas up and stop playing it so safe and mumsy… us young girls need clubby clothes too!

My future choices will be Tesco, Simply Be, Sainsburys, Inspire, Simply Yours….. I’m coming to get you *rawr*
Katie
