Afternoon Tea at St Mary’s Inn, Morpeth

St Marys Inn Afternoon Tea

Towards the end of February, we raided our piggy bank and stayed at St Mary’s  Inn for a post Valentines weekend away. The review is coming soon so keep an eye out for it!

Whilst we were there, we indulged in one of their new signature Afternoon Tea’s (£14.99)*.

Hampton by Hilton – Newcastle City Centre

Hampton by Hilton – Newcastle City Centre

Hampton by Hilton is, as you’d guess, an offshoot of the Hilton hotel chain. A global monster, Hampton aims itself at the mid priced market of travel which is another great addition to the tourism sector of Newcastle. I do think we are missing more luxe hotels but there’s clearly a call for budget style hotels.

Rosa Twelve, Low Fell

Rosa Twelve Low Fell

A Monday night in the post Valentine lull seemed like a great time for a dinner date at Rosa Twelve, a reasonably recent addition to the Low Fell dining line up. I had previously visited on a lunch time with work colleagues when it first opened and I was impressed with the pizzas, it was time to try something else!

A previous incarnation of the restaurant had been owned by old family friends but Rosa Twelve has firmly cemented itself on the scene with a fresh, modern, clean décor and a wide and exciting menu.

Not only is there a restaurant, you can also have a drink in the ground floor bar area or head downstairs to the Cicchetti bar for small dishes, nibbles and live music.

The Punch bowl, Satley

The Punch Bowl Satley

In an aim to bring you more reviews from Durham, we have upped our visits to cute country pubs…. And everyone loves a country pub lunch don’t they? The Punch Bowl in Satley is 5 minutes from the A68 and 15 minutes drive from Durham City. We live quite close to Satley and always drive through but haven’t visited so just before Christmas, we took the time to visit. The village is quite remote and rural so please do bare that in mind when you decide to visit!

Carlito’s, Daisy Hill, Durham

Carlitos Ristorante Review 4

Carlitos Ristorante Review 4

Part of the Durham based dining chain Hollathans, Carlito’s Ristorante has taken up residence in a converted pub in Daisy Hill, bringing Italian food to the Durham countryside. In a village slap bang between Chester le Street and Durham, it remains a stones throw from other properties such as Hollathans in Chester le street and The Chester Moor which I reviewed HERE.
