Byron Burger comes to Newcastle

Byron Burgers

It has been rumour and here say for a little while now about the upcoming arrival of the burger giant Byron Burger but as a planning permission has been submitted and confirmed by the big-wigs, it is safe to say it is on it’s way!!

Byron will be calling Grey Street home, taking over the old H&M store (also previously Waterstones) which will see them with a prime spot at the head of the street ready to compete with The Botanist and Jamie’s

Since 2007, Tom Byng has been cultivating and expanding his empire which now sees 37 London restaurants as well as a further 12 across the country with new ones due to open. My personal favourite is the Canary Wharf restaurant as the whole area feels pleasantly deserted on a weekend – a rarity for London!

What this means for other local burger ventures, I don’t know, but it is nice to see Newcastle and the Northeast being considered viable locations for the southern-centric chains we are attracting.

I will bring you more details as soon as I have them!

Chez Mal Brasserie, Malmaison, Newcastle

Chez Mal Brasserie

Unless you have been under a rock, you will have noticed all the hype surrounding the relaunch of the Malmaison Brasserie – Chez Mal Brasserie. You can check out the buzz on Twitter using #chezmal

We were invited along to the launch party which saw host of celebrities like Sting and other pseudo celebs turn out to toast the launch of the revamped restaurant. With live music and cocktail stations manned and ready to satiate your thirst and a huge selection of food that showcased the skills of the kitchen team. The attention to detail for the launch was just outstanding.

The main, notable changes in the property were the bar and restaurant trading places. No more afternoon cocktails with a view of the quayside. The bar space has been moved to the back of the floor and expanded to accommodate more seating and bodies. A very chic area.

The Chez Mal Brasserie now sits front and centre. Large picture windows overlooking the Millennium Bridge afford the restaurant a sense of light and an airy feeling which wasn’t met in it’s old position. I can see people clamouring for a luxe booth or the coveted tables for 2 in front of the windows.

Read on for some photos of the beautiful food……

Café Royal Newcastle

Cafe Royal Newcastle

Café Royal, on Nelson Street in Newcastle city centre, is one of those places that we all have on our list. You always mean to try it but never get round to it.

After seeing a fellow foody rave about their visits over on Twitter, we finally bit the bullet and paid a visit for breakfast. It was a toss up between here and Tyneside Café but as we passed here first, we ducked in.

I am firmly on the fence in regards to Café Royal and you can read why……
