Newcastle Restaurant Week January 16th – 22nd 2017

This is the first Food Friday of 2017! No review from me, just good old advance warning of the upcoming Restaurant Week!

Whether you want to try somewhere new or get a bargain at your usual haunt, now is the time to do it!

There’s a heck of a lot of new restaurants, both independent and chain so there’s something to please everyone.Some of the deals have changed since the last time, with courses going down or cost going up but it’s still a bargain!

Designated Driver Scheme Newcastle

At this time of year, being the designated driver can be both a blessing or a curse. Whether it is by necessity or choice, buying soft drinks, mocktails or alco free beers can all add up to just as an expensive night as one on the booze but you get the joy, usually, of ferrying your drunk mates home after the Christmas Party. Yay.

In a bid to drastically cut down the amount of drink drivers at this festive time of year, many City Centre bars are now adopting the Designated Driver scheme.

Ever late to the party, we finally visited Lane 7 for a date day filled with food, beer and some man vs wife competition.

Slap bang on the St James Boulevard, one of the busiests roads in the city centre, we were pleased we visited at long last.

The Blackbird, Ponteland

The Blackbird Ponteland Newcastle Review

On quite possibly the rainiest day of the year, we ventured to The Blackbird in Ponteland to sample the delicious delights.

Thanks to extensive restorations carried out throuh the years, The Blackbird can proudly call the old Ponteland Castle home. Although destroyed in 1388, areas can still be found in the building such as the tower and gorgeous Tudor fireplace.

Billed as serving Country Fayre + City Drinks, we headed in to explore
