The Orchid, Newcastle

The Orchid Newcastle

The Orchid Newcastle

When the lovely folks over at the Copthorne Hotel on Newcastle’s Quayside got in touch and asked me to help them create a Bloggers Guide to Newcastle, I jumped at the chance.  We were kindly sent off to review The Orchid* Chinese restaurant which is across the road from the hotel in an old Bonded Warehouse.

On entering, we were greeted with great customer service and beaming smiles whilst being shown to our table. With several seating areas throughout the restaurant as well as a private room, each table is afforded the relative luxury of being well spaced from their neighbour, a rarity in most restaurants it would seem. Chic contempory interior and well dressed staff exuded an air of class and quality.

Jesmond Dene House, Newcastle

Jesmond Dene House Review

Since opening it’s doors in 2005, Jesmond Dene House has been a mainstay of luxury in Newcastle. Designed by John Dobson, the Georgian home has been sympathetically converted and maintained, boasting 40 bedrooms, event halls and of course award winning dining.

With 3 AA rosettes under their belt, head chef Michael Penaluna proudly gives diners the best of local produce which includes fish and seafood coming from another local legend, Latimers.

Il Piccolo, Corbridge

Il Piccolo Corbridge

On a grim and grey Valentines Day, we found ourselves heading to Corbridge for a brisk walk, some gift shop browsing and of course lunch; which saw us heading to Il Piccolo Corbridge, a family run restaurant, café and deli tucked away off the main street.

A rustic décor was festooned with red hearts in perfect keeping with the day. There wasn’t a special themed lunch menu which suited us as we are a bit a anti V-Day!

Whilst we were there, we indulged in one of their new signature Afternoon Tea’s (£14.99)*.

Hampton by Hilton – Newcastle City Centre

Hampton by Hilton – Newcastle City Centre

Hampton by Hilton is, as you’d guess, an offshoot of the Hilton hotel chain. A global monster, Hampton aims itself at the mid priced market of travel which is another great addition to the tourism sector of Newcastle. I do think we are missing more luxe hotels but there’s clearly a call for budget style hotels.
