Exploring Holland – Utrecht

Exploring Holland – Utrecht

Following on from last weeks post all about how we got to the Dutch city of Utrecht, I am going to tell you all about the city itself today. It really is a hidden gem.

A mere 20 minutes by train from Amsterdam, Utrecht is home to the largest university in the country yet still maintains a quaint and quiet feeling, with a population of less than 400,000. That’s

If you have ever wanted to experience Holland and even Amsterdam yourself but you want a slower pace, Utrecht is the place for you.

We are sailing to Utrecht

Utrecht

It’s Travel Tuesday or #TTOT if you follow tags on Twitter so I wanted to tell you all about my mini break this week to Utrechtas we are super excited!

On Thursday we will be hopping on the ferry from North Shields to Ijmiuden which is the principal port of Holland. After a quick zip on the train, we will be spending a long weekend in Utrecht which was voted as having the best canals in Europe by a travel company survey.

A mere half an hour south of Amsterdam, we are on a mission to uncover more of Holland than the bright lights and reputation of Amsterdam. With a Dom Tower, canal cruises and a nightly city light show, we can’t wait to get there and explore.

Keep your eyes peeled for live tweeting and instagram pictures of our trip and a post when we get back.

I have found a Sephora in Utrecht……. ’nuff said.

It’s a city brimming with history, art, and easy access to the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. If you’re planning a stag do in Newcastle, you won’t be alone, as it’s one of the top 10 destinations in the UK. Here’s some ideas to get you started.

Marriott Hotel Leeds

Marriott Hotel Leeds

For the best part of a year, whilst working away, I called the Marriott Hotel Leeds home.

Tucked away in a cute, quiet square just off Boar Lane opposite the new Trinity shopping centre, you can escape the hubbub of central city noise whilst still being a mere 10 minute walk from the train station and for me, the all important Harvey Nichols!
