Today, I am going to share my visit to the Lord Crewe Arms pub and hotel in Blanchland. Situated a short hop from Derwent Reservoir in the Durham countryside, you may remember the name of the village from my review of the White Monk Tea Room.
After undergoing a huge £1.5m renovation, the Lord Crewe Arms re-opened in 2014 with a beautiful restaurant and luxurious rooms.

When I heard that the old St Mary’s Hospital which was known as The Gateshead Lunatic Asylum was being converted in to luxury housing and a beautiful gastro pub – St Mary’s Inn, I jumped at the chance to pop along for a visit.
Back in September I bought a Living Social deal for our favourite Thai restaurant in Durham. The Star of Siam is based in the Highfield Hotel which is about 10 minutes outside of the city centre, on the side of the A690. Set back from the dual carriage way on a slightly elevated plot, the view from the restaurant is great on a clear evening… not so much in a pitch dark November!
In a first on the site, I have welcomed a guest review for Food Friday. Carter (or Andrew to his mother) is a talented local DJ who has pioneered club nights for many many years. Not only is he a ska punk legend he is a good old local lad and all round super top chap. I challenged him to give food reviewing a go on his visit to House of Tides and I think he has done a bloody good job…..

A mere 5 minute drive outside of Durham City Centre sits Ramside Hall Hotel. A popular spa destination hotel, wedding and golfing venue tucked away from the bustle of the A1 and the A690. The Rib Room is the hotels main restaurant and on a Sunday offer a 2 course lunch for £16.95 or a 3 course for £20.95 (supplement for steak).
