Lefty O’Douls, San Francisco

Lefty O’Douls, San Francisco

If anyone ever asks for somewhere to get some cheap but good quality food in San Francisco, Lefty O’Douls is our first tip!

This has a bit of cult status amongst us and our friends as we first visited on our honeymoon 10yr ago and have raved about it ever since.

A hop, skip + a jump away from Union Square and Market Street, Lefty’s is a good old fashioned pub serving chilled beer, hot food and sports memorabilia by the bucket load. Lefty O’Doul was a legendary left handed baseball player  hence the name and the link. The décor is dated but that’s the draw and appeal for us – it’s honest…. And always busy! Yes, it’s not the most glam place in the city and nor is it the most coveted but you know what, we love the place and so does everyone we recommend it to!

With the space split between bar and cafeteria, you can get your breakfast bloody mary and omelette all in one go.

The breakfasts are gargantuan and all very reasonably around the $10-$15 dollar mark. With unlimited refills of Starbucks coffee and delicious pulpy fresh orange, breakfast here will set you up all day. We certainly don’t need lunch when we eat here.

For all the lunch and dinner menus are great and there’s a cool cafeteria line like you see on old American TV shows, the breakfasts are what make us come back time and time again. When darkness falls, cocktails are poured and the piano is played to give the place a really laid back old school vibe.

I snapped a couple of photos of our breakfasts and no matter how many times I try it, I still say biscuits + gravy are not a breakfast dish!

Corned beef hash with chunks of salty soft beef, waxy potatoes and crisp peppers. Sunny side up eggs and scrambled for me. Hot sauce obligatory!

We love Lefty’s so much, we have mugs for the office at home for our daily coffee!
