Tucked away on a rural working farm in rural Durham, Broom House Coffee Shop boasts a menu that is chock full of home cooked dishes and sweet treats made solely with ingredients from the farm.
A mere 10 minute drive away from Durham city centre, overlooking the stunning countryside towards Lanchester and the Derwent Valley beyond, Broom House Farm not only contains a quaint custom built Coffee Shop but a Farm Shop selling in-house fresh produce, Childrens activity areas, a Woodland trail and an exhilarating experience company called Fury Events. The whole site provides something for everyone – fun for all the family with plenty of parking.
We visited on a grey and miserable Monday morning for breakfast and left satisfied and full…. With a stash of take away cakes!
Settling down with a Full English, it is evident that the sausages, bacon and eggs are all super fresh and local. You can taste the quality of small batch produce. Yes a fried breakfast isn’t the biggest or best showcase for culinary skill but on such a basic, fundamental dish, if the ingredients can shine through then that speaks louder than fancy plating or leafy garnish. Don’t you agree?
The fresh hot toast with proper butter went down a treat – we are suckers for toast!
My sausage and mushroom sandwich was no different. Juicy, succulent fresh sausages and sautéed mushrooms hit the spot with a mug of tea to start the day. The chef even made an appearance to check if I had enough mushrooms as he had done more if I wanted them (YES!). Would you get that level of service in somewhere more polished? No probably not but that is what makes Broom House endearing.
We loaded up with freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea and again, they were just good, simple and honest. I would rather support a local business producing fresh goods than a national chain. We live just across the field from Broom Farm and will definitely be back for a Sunday Lunch!
The Coffee Shop offers a variety of breakfasts, lunches, hot dishes, snacks and cakes as well as Sunday Lunches.
If you are out and about in the area, pop in for a coffee and cake. We know you won’t be disappointed.
