Hello Lovelies,
It’s Friday… so that means one thing and one thing only… it’s Spotlight time! dun dun duuuun!
This week, I’m pleased to introduce you all to the down right gorgeous Beccy who owns www.beautybeelondon.com.
Beauty Bee London is a really cute, clean and simple site offering up a great mix of beauty, fashion and general lifestyle musings. I really love Beccy’s site as I love to learn a little bit about the girls behind the blog so including little snippets about your lifestyle fascinates me!
If you aren’t already following Beauty Bee London, head on over and join in the fun!
With that, I’ll hand you over to Beccy herself….
Q : Tell us a little bit about your blog(s) and why you started it /them
I’ve always had a love-hate relationship with my unruly curly tresses, and in my never ending plight to tame my curls, I scoured the web for hints and tips and stumbled across the then hidden world of beauty blogging. Fast forward to 2011, I decided that as a long-term blog reader, I wanted to join the party and my blog, beautybeelondon.com was born.
Q : What is your favourite part of blogging?
I am going to be greedy and have three favourites!
Firstly, finding out about new and wonderful products. Being a beauty blogger means that you get to discover some absolute gems of products – I would never have discovered the might of Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish if it wasn’t for the blogging community and that would be a dark dark place.
Secondly, the community. Yes there can be flashpoints at times, but you get to meet and interact with likeminded and talented people and that’s a wonderful thing to be involved in.
And lastly, the chance to write. I’ve always enjoyed writing, and having my own blog focuses my attentions when I might otherwise just slob on the sofa. Although, I clearly do enjoy that as well.
Q : What is your least favourite part?
The fact that I definitely spend far too much on beauty products. How many foundations does one girl need really? Pre-beautybeelondon, I had a maximum of two, and now, that collection stands at about six with one on order. My goodness.
Q : If you could go back to the time you started your blog, what would you do differently?
Photography. I am by no means an expert now and in fact, am a self-confessed photography Luddite, but I think my photos have improved. When I started blogging, I was using my iPhone and instagram and for me, having never really mastered the act of using either of these, my photos weren’t fantastic. Cutting ties with my iPhone meant I had to start using a camera, and whilst it is nothing fancy, I haven’t looked back.
Q : What advice could you give to new bloggers just starting their blogging adventure?
Do it and enjoy it. I still feel like a new blogger and that I have a lot to learn, but the sense of pride and accomplishment I get from my blog is wonderful, and I would encourage everyone to do the same.
Q : What’s your shopping style – Budgeted, splurge or frugal? Do you ever shop solely with your blog in mind?
A cross between splurge and budgeted. I have never been frugal in my life but should probably start! I love a bargain, but I also love good quality and have adopted the philosophy to spend more and buy less for both my wardrobe and beauty buys.
I have shopped with my blog in mind – I think it’s only natural when you’re a blogger!
Q : What are your favourite brands and why?
In terms of beauty brands, I adore Dior, Benefit, Liz Earle and Demalogica – but I love lots of bits and pieces from the lower price range such as Rimmel’s Wake Me Up Foundation and MUA eyeshadows. L’Oreal is also a firm favourite. Alongside Liz Earle for my skin, I am a massive Olay addict.
For my wardrobe, my current obsession is Whistles and Zara – some beautiful items.
Q : Do you take inspiration from the media or do you go it alone and rock your own style?
I do take inspiration from the media – I like to see what is popular right now, but that would never mean I would do something just because it is deemed as cool. I have never been cool in my life and in my mid-twenties, I don’t think I will start now!
Q : What would you say your ‘signature look’ is, whether that’s make up or fashion?
Without the risk of sounding cheesy, I would say I have quite a classic style in both make-up and fashion. I’m not talking about rocking a twin-set and pearls, but in a world dominated by disco pants and neon shades, I stick with more timeless options. Perhaps in my younger and skinnier days, I would have been out there with the best of them, but these days, I prefer something a bit less out there!
Right… now on to the more interesting questions – The personal ones. These are the ones I always wonder about bloggers!
Q : How old are you?
I just realise I have made myself sound quite old from the above but I am 25.
Q : What do you do? Student? Work? Profession?
Sadly no longer a student, I work in the wonderful world of recruitment process outsourcing. And I adore it.
Q : What do you like to do when you aren’t blogging?
I am a tom-boy at heart and love going for runs and going back to my hometown of Bath to watch the might of Bath Rugby. I also love seeing my nearest and dearest, be that on a Sunday morning for a cheeky Earl Grey and scone, or meeting up for a few mojitos. I am an avid reader and writer, so you might either find me thinking about books or with my nose in one. Outside of that, I will be trawling the net-a-porter website, drinking gin, tea or wine (not all at the same time), or choosing which dog to adopt from Battersea Dogs Home.
Q : What kind of music do you like?
I have an eclectic music taste to say the best! I grew up with an older father so my early life was dominated by the likes of Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James and Dean Martin. Now, I adore Amy Winehouse, Adele, Lana del Rey, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britian and Florence alongside a lot of cheesy pop and some more unusual choices like Noah and The Whale, High Laurie and The Gaslight Anthem. Oh and Kate Bush. Put my iPod on shuffle and you will never heard anything like it!
Q : Happy to be seen bare faced or do you always wear make up?
It depends on who is seeing me! I’ve never been one to cake myself in foundation, but these days, I tend to put on a little bit of tinted moisturiser and mascara even if just popping out for a short time.
Q : What do you love most about beauty and fashion?
The confidence that it can give. When your wearing a favourite outfit and you are happy with how you look, the feeling is like walking on air.
Q : What do you hate most about beauty and fashion?
The flipside – the lack of confidence it can give. Reading other blogs, magazines and websites, it’s natural to compare yourself to others and sometimes it can feel like you don’t compare!
And finally… the biggy…..
Q : If you had to invest in 1 designer piece… money no object…. would it be a pair of shoes, a handbag or a dress? I want to see pictures!!!
Money no object?!
