97 & Social, Jesmond, Newcastle

97 & Social Jesmond

Taking up residence on the well famed ‘Jesmond Strip’ on Osborne Road, newcomer 97  & Social takes over the old Bar Berlise spot and heads up an impressive line-up in the area from the Cairn Group.

After a whopping £500,000 investment, 97 & Social is an opulent affair. From the wood panelling and wing back chairs to the large booths ideal for accommodating groups or parties willing to share, the social element of the venture certainly has been catered for. For those fair weather days, the outside space has been retained and re-used to offer both outside drinking and dining. The Bar Berlise canopies have escaped the renovation and remain in place.

Solano’s, Newcastle

Solanos Newcastle

Tucked away on Amen Corner, Solano’s is the latest member of the Newcastle foodie scene.

Bringing a little taste of South America to the North East, the venture is the first Peruvian restaurant outside of London and takes its name from the famous Peruvian NUFC footballer Nolberto Solano. Whilst good old Nobby is not actually involved, the 3 joint owners (Chris Levee, Alfonso Yanez and Linda Deacon) gave a nod to the footballer after investing £100,000 in to the restaurant prior to launch.

Latimer’s Seafood Deli & Cafe, Whitburn

Latimers Seafood

On a glorious hot day, most of our thoughts always lead us to the beach and being here in the North East we are spoiled for choice. If you are sick of the usual greasy fish and chips then you most definitely need to head to Latimer’s Seafood Deli & Cafe at Whitburn. View Post

DFDS Food Showcase

On a bright Monday morning, I found myself port side at the DFDS Ferry Terminal in North Shields after being promised a day of culinary delight. Sounds good right? Not if you are as scared of boats as I am! Nevertheless, I was wearing my big girl pants and sucked it up, donned my hi vis and set foot aboard the King Seaways.

Running to a daily schedule from Newcastle to Amsterdam, the weekend cruises are infamous in the North East as we are proud to call the route our own. I had reservations before I went as I thought it would be all burgers, chips, lager and pre packed food for the drunken masses.

I was wrong. So very wrong.
