Review : Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (53)

Review : Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation (53)

I bought this foundation as  very quick stop gap until I could get myself out to buy the Chanel Vitalumiere.I wanted to give a drug store / high street foundation a whirl and after reading everyones glowing praise for the Healthy Mix, I had to try it!
After a rocky start with this foundation I found myself with lumps, spots and rash on my face but being the foolish girly I am, I perservered with it. And boy am i glad I did!

Now that my skin is used to it, I get a lovely dewy glow and good amount of coverage for my high colour areas. I haven’t had a reaction to this product since, now that my skin is used to it and I get a pretty good amount of day long wear from it. I don’t feel I need to top up on the afternoon with some pressed powder.

The official blurb says it provides 70% more radiance and flawless complexion for up to 16hrs. This is Bourjois’s first radiance boosting foundation and to achieve that glowy boost, it uses fruit extracts to promote the dewy glow.

– Apricot gives radiance
– Melon provides hydration
– Apple acts as an antioxidant
– Ginger gives your skin an energy boost

The combination of these fruity goodies does give the foundation a nice light, fruity scent as you are applying it but it certainly doesnt linger, overpoweringly on your skin which is good for me and my sensitive skin! It is a very ‘wet’ foundation but it means you get plenty of time to buff and work with the product before it becomes impossible to blend… and we’ve all had foundations like that haven’t we! Maybe it’s the moist texture of the foundation that helps to give the luminosity to the face? Who knows!

On days when your skin feels a bit oily, this does make it feel a bit worse but I haven’t noticed any product slip on days like that which has to be a bonus?! It says you get 16hrs wear and I haven’t monitored closely the wear, but it certainly lasts 10-12hrs during a working day. I haven’t tested it in a club yet but, like I say, if it’s set with powder, I think it will last well.
It’s one that needs to be set, for sure but as a drugstore foundation, I am suitably impressed.

Review : Green People Pressed Powder

Review : Green People Pressed Powder
I absolutely LOVE this powder. I cannot say any more than that!

I usually use MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural but as much as I love the coverage that powder gives on top of my foundation to tone down my rosy cheeks, I find it makes me look a little mask like and caked up on closer inspection. I’ve truly tried a million and one application techniques and it’s very definitely a powder I use when my make up is very ‘done’ and not for every day office wear.

The Green People powder is such a beautifully delicate pressed powder that gives me just a hint of coverage whilst setting my foundation without looking caked. I can layer powder bronzer and blush either on top or below this powder and it still holds up well without masking over the luminous glow my foundation gives me.

The powder really does just give me such a silky smooth flawless look. It finishes my foundation off perfectly without detracting from the quality of the foundation.

Not only is it a fab powder, it is also  SPF15 and certified organic. Not only that, the powder is free of Parabens, Bismuth Oxychloride, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, Unnecessary Bulking Agents and Synthetic Colourants which is a big bonus for me as I hate to overload my sensitive skin with chemicals and other ‘tat’.

I use this powder with a brush whilst doing the rest of my make up and as much as I LOVE the cute petal shaped gloss black compact, I would love to have seen a mirror and a pad included for putting in your handbag for on the move touch ups. The powder pan is magnetic so I could probably depot it in to another compact but then I’d love the natty, cool packaging of the GP one. I have stocked up on powder puff pads so I will definitely be buying a secondary powder to keep in my bag!

Bye Bye Frizz

Bye Bye Frizz

Today, I am booked in for my first Brazilian / Keratin blow dry and I can’t wait.

I don’t have too much issue with my natural hair being curly as such so i’m not wanting it for it’s straightening powers but for helping fight frizz on the ends so I won’t have to heat treat my hair.

I’m also excited to see how it copes in high humidity for stopping my hair frizzing out in to a giant fuzz ball.

It will be perfect for my holidays and those odd balmy days we sometimes get in to September where it’s still a bit too warm to wear a big winter coat, but it’s still raining… y’know those days? They play havoc with my hair!

And to follow in line with the lovely Monica Gellar monster hair, my husband has threatened to lock me in my room if I try to calm it with a baseball cap or seashell braids… that’s love isnt it!

I am going to the appointment today with a little trepidation. I don’t want to have huge expectations and be disappointed with the results but after speaking to the lovely Louise from Get Lippie on Twitter (@getlippie) about her experiences of having the treatment, I think i’m prepared.

The only thing that really puts me off is the no washing hair for 4 days… it’s not even like I can tie it back during those 4 days either! I bloomin’ hope I can get away with some Batiste on the roots to tide me over! eep!

For information, I plan to review my treatment and salon visit but I am in no way affiliated with the company. I purchased my treatment via a deal on Groupon : £59 – Conditioning treatment, cut, blow dry and brazilian blow dry.

Sheer Cover Duo Concealer aka make up bag floozy

Sheer Cover Duo Concealer aka make up bag floozy
Let me show you my most reached for make up bag item.

This is the AWESOME Sheer Cover concealer due in tan / medium. It’s a 2 shade solid concealer duo.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I have an obsession with tv shopping info-mercials. Mostly because I get up before the majority of Sky tv channels ‘switch on’ for the day so I am bombarded daily with adverts for skin clearing products, ab toning contraptions, food manglers and of course Sheer Cover. My favourite advert has to be the Guthy Renker Sheer Cover advert. Not only because I have a girl crush on Alyssa Milano (I blame Charmed!) but as a big fan of mineral make up, I love their powder. It certainly does cover up red cheeks.
I use this every single day, without fail. It is looking very sorry for itself at the minute but don’t feel too sorry for the poor pot, it gets more action than anything else.. It’s a bit of a make up floozy in my house, it gets action with all my foundations! – Eeesh!
I suffer a lot of allergy reaction breakouts and red patches on my cheeks and I absolutely love how this duo tones down the redness on my cheeks and blots out any blemishes without fuss or hassle.
The creamy consistency of this concealer means it is applied super smoothly and it requires the bare minimum of re-work to get it settled on the skin. I’m guessing it goes on so effortlessly so that it helps the Sheer Cover powder stick to it for longevity.
The colour of the duo obviously won’t match everyone elses skin tones but it does come in different colourways. The slight yellow tone of this one really works well to eradicate the reddness in my skin… certainly more than any of those poxy murky green colour correctors have done in the passed… and trust me I have tried them all!
I had previously been struggling of late to find a good concealer. My liquid tube of MAC Select Cover just wasn’t giving me anywhere near enough coverage and I didn’t like having to build it up as I felt a bit caked. I don’t like the thick waxy, draggy application from bullet based concealers and I find concealers that come with a wand to be a bit too chalky and lacking in coverage – certainly all based on my skin type and preferences of course.
I’m currently mixing the shades on each use and the reason it looks so mauled is that I lightly pat it with my foundation brush on both sides and then gently buff in to the very high colour areas on my cheeks before applying my lightweight foundation. It doesn’t make me look or feel caked with make up, but it does give a great, natural feeling level of high coverage. The texture of the concealer also seems to double up as a great primer, keeping my foundation and blush in place to cover the high colour.
I’m so so pleased I tried the concealer duo and it will definiately become a repurchase when I finally (and sadly) destroy this pan. It has lasted me about 6 months so far of daily use because you literally do just need to show the product to the brush to get a good amount of coverage.
My only gripe is the price, £17.95 is a big pill to swallow, even though I know the quality, consistency and colour is perfect for me. Ho hum, cross to bear!
If you are iffy about buying a skin tone reliant product online without swatching, Sheer Cover offer a 60 day money back trial so you can rest assure you can send it back for a different tone.
