Sleek – Aruba Blush – Caribbean Collection

Sleek – Aruba Blush – Caribbean Collection

I’ll hold my hands up now ladies… this blush scares me! I had visions of me putting it on and turning in to one of those orange faced chavs – Yuk! The packaging is divine though, so cute and bright. I love it!

As usual the blush packaging features a great distortion free mirror which is great for topping up blush and other make up on the go.

The blush itself is a bold vivid orange. It couldn’t be confused with anything else, it’s a definite orange! To be fair, it’s only a few small notches up from the Pan Tao blush which is an orange peach itself.

When swatched the blush comes out to a powdery pigmented finish but I have found it to be crazy hard to blend out. I’ve not really had this problem with the other Sleek blushes, this is by far the hardest to work with so far. Even with a super light hand, you need to work the blush in and make sure it’s blended perfectly. It’s really not one of those perfect blushes you can just ‘throw on’ and it looks fab.

The way I like to wear mine is over the top of a bronzer and tan blush, just to add a bit of colour to the cheeks to stop them looking a little flat. Maybe with a tan or on darker skinned lovelies you could work it out on its own but I think for fair skins it could just be way OTT. I am willing to be proven wrong though if anyone has any pictures of them wearing it?

As the blush is so highly pigmented, I only ever need to lightly tap my brush on top of the pan, rather than sweeping it over. It gives the perfect light wash of colour without having to deal with the powdery fall out.

All in all, I’m glad I bought this. I think I’ll get a lot more wear out of it once I have a tan as it is just a volumised version of Pan Tao (in my opinion anyway), and for £4.30, it’s a great colour to have in your collection.

A box shaped buzz?

After Glossy Box recently burst on to the UK scene with rave reviews on the first box, I was keen to jump on the bandwagon. I of course apparently missed the deadline for the June box so I am still sitting waiting for my 1st box despite paying weeks and weeks ago! Hmmph!

I’m quite glad I didn’t get the 2nd box as from what I can gather everyone was pretty unhappy about what they’d pay for, namely the mini can of Batiste. Now every girl needs a can, but it’s not exactly the high end luxe product everyone had been promised now is it.

Combining the shaky 2nd reviews with a new price hike (an additional £2.95 for postage) for 5 middle of the road product samples seems to be a bit expensive. £2.95 would be understandable if you were getting 5 full size bottles of product but for some sachets and minis? It does seem excessive.

I will certainly be basing any potential outlay on my first box so lets hope it’s a good one. I love small travel size products as I travel a lot, the Glossy Box concept is one that appeals as I get to stock up on mini’s but I also get to try a lot of products that I wouldn’t normally have access to on a highstreet or wouldn’t want to risk trying in a full size with my sensitive skin.

Hot on the heels of the Glossy Box is Boudoir Privé a new contender for the luxury sampling crown. For your £10 monthly fee you will be receiving 6, yes 6, ‘deluxe-sized’ samples. So automatically you are getting an extra 1 item above and beyond the Glossy Box offering.

The online buzz is growing about Boudoir Privé being potentially being better than Glossy Box so as I am yet to receive my first GB, I was eager to jump on the Boudoir Privé bandwagon, just in case like Glossy Box, the subsequent quality of parcels detoriates I can atleast say I was in there at the beginning! The name alone has a bit more sophistication than Glossy Box. I’m a sucker for a seductive product name!

Review : Sleek True Colour lipstick – Peaches & Cream

Review : Sleek True Colour lipstick – Peaches & Cream

I bought this liptstick on a whim while I was ordering my Oh So Special Palette (review to come soon) and from the website it looked like a gorgeous coral tinged peach. Perfect for the summer and work friendly too.  Knowing the quality and pigmentation of Sleek products I had high hopes of a great lipstick at a bargainous price!

When the lipstick arrived I was seriously shocked at how small it was. The packaging is tiny! I did partially feel ripped off on the price vs size front but once I rolled the bullet out it was clear the product wasn’t as dinky as the tube suggested! The lipstick itself is housed in an oval tube with a matte black almost rubberised feel to it which reminded me of the GOSH lipsticks. The Sleek True Colour logo was barely visible on the tube with the naked eye, which made trying to take a picture of it quite tricky (I lack perservereance y’see!) The logo was reminiscent of the i-Divine Palettes, the way they feature black on black logos.

You can just about make out the logo on this picture

The colour is a warm orange based coral peach tone and the bullet looks decidedly waxy. The product actually goes on to give a super soft milky sheen with highly pigmented colour.

The sheen does dry out quite quickly on my lips to leave a more matte finish but it makes a fab base for the Bonaire or Sugar May pout polish, especially the latter as I find it far too sheer to wear alone.

For all the lipstick is beautifully pigmented and it would lovely on someone with a paler natural lip colour but on me I don’t know how much wear I’ll get from this as a lipstick, the milky texture is just too apparent on my lips which makes them look a bit gross. I will definitely use it as a base for the pout polishes as they really eradicate the milky tones.

Look how milky it looks on my inner lip line – not nice at all!

Even though my first foray in to True Colour lipsticks has been slightly disappointing, that’s totally down to my choice of colours. I know I will definitely be picking up a few more in the future… I may however only buy them from the concession stand so that I can swatch before buying.
Like nail varnish websites, I still think actual swatches would be so beneficial for buying online. Whether it’s a smear on a hand or a snap of a models lips. I know it will boost costs and time up on the brands part but as a consumer, I’d just totally love to see it.

Review : Lava Shells

Review : Lava Shells

After the buzz about Lava Shells as a result of The Apprentice, I felt compelled to give the lava shells a try. I have seen many salons and spa’s offering a lava shell massage but have never really looked in to finding out about it. I finally bit the bullet!
I have to say, I tried this with great trepidation. I love a professional massage and melt in to the bed when hot stones are used – bliss – I didn’t want an at home treatment to, well almost ruin that for me, if you get me? To help me fully review this kit, I did enlist the help of my glamourous assistant (Mr Tramp) but he said I wasn’t allowed to include any ‘action shots’ of him spread-eagle on the bed covered in oil – which is fine, this isn’t a rude site eh, I’ll keep those shots for ‘personal consumption’ 😉
The packaging of the Lava Shells is pretty bland and utilitarian but I wouldn’t buy it for the packaging right? It’s not one to be kept on display in the bathroom in the box lets say! All the individual components are all clearly separated and labelled which is great considering you actually have to do a bit of DIY alchemy to get the shells to activate. The instruction booklet is nice and clear offering both pictures and words. I liked this touch as one persons ‘simple’ instructions is another persons’ war and peace but you can rarely go wrong with pictures.

The kit includes 1 Lava Shell, 4 heat pad sachets, 4 activators and 4 ampules of organic massage oil. This kit costs £35 but don’t worry, you can buy extra refills once you have worked your way through this lot (£25 for 4 more charges plus a bottle of oil). Each shell, once ‘charged’ lasts around an hour so you get plenty to comfortably give 2 good back massages before needing to worry about cooling down. The refills are quite pricey at (PRICE) but it still works out cheaper than going to a salon. I have to say I am quite disappointed that there is only 1 shell in the kit. Most massage techniques use 2 hands, so only including 1 shell is a bit silly, even if the price was slightly higher, I’d rather have had the two shells. I suppose this could be a marketing ploy to sell more, who knows.

The preparation of the pads and shell is simple and quick with a lovely lavender aroma which Mr Tramp said was quite soothing. The aroma does linger while working the skin with the shell, combined with the light scent of the oil, it makes it quite pleasant to be giving the massage as well as receiving! I’m not keen on the oil, I thought it wasn’t as pliable as massage oil should be to give good coverage of the skin you’re working. We tried 1 massage with the supplied oil and 1 without and you really do need some kind of lubricant (oo-er!) as the shell just drags and becomes uncomfortable without something to slip over, but for the interests of testing we tried both! We rated the oil with the kit as quite poor, but good for being included.
The shell doesn’t get as hot as we were hoping for but it is a definite warm experience. Not as hot as ‘hot stones’ but lovely nonetheless. We did find that if we left the shell on the side for a couple of minutes and then came back to it it was much warmer and it felt more effective. Again, if there had been 2 shells in the kit it would have been so effortless to swap from each shell while the other one came back up to temperature.

Once we’d finished and came to removing the hot pad, it was funny to watch the pad steaming away on the side of the bathroom sink! The shell was easy to rinse out and dry ready to go back in its box. On a side note to the packaging, it would have been great if there was a small box or pouch in the kit in which to keep the shell in between uses as I don’t think the clear plastic tab holding the shell in place in the flimsy box is going to be strong enough for storage. You certainly couldn’t stack anything on top of it in a cupboard.
We narrowed our review down in to bullet points…

Good :
Aroma
Instructions are clear
Oil included
Bringing salon treatments in to the home
Shell is pretty enough to be left out on a bathroom counter

Bad :
Only 1 shell
Poor quality oil
Not that hot
Packaging not sturdy enough for storage of fragile shell

I’m glad I have the kit and as it’s not something that will get used up that quickly, of course it depends how often you like your massages! It’s a great at home piece to supplement professional massages or even just ween you in to going to a salon to get you used to the experience, if you are a massage novice (as we all were once!). It’s definitely a home piece, I wouldn’t recommend it for budding therapists or mobile technicians unless they get 2+ shells or a bulk buying option is offered.
