Minimalist packing is not something I have yet fully managed but with every trip I am getting close and closer to my perfect travel capsule wardrobe.

After my recent 2 week road trip I have picked up more tweaks I can make and I found dressing every day and planning ahead to be much more simple as everything went together…..

We’ve all heard about “capsule wardrobes”. It’s a nifty organisational technique, which promises to help you reduce your clutter and minimise the time spent choosing what to wear. Make no mistake—it’s not just another fashion fad.

Not only is it effective, it’s something that you can apply to packing for your next holiday. After all, packing can be a pain, and you don’t want to waste a second putting together an outfit. With a travel capsule wardrobe, you’ll be able to minimise luggage space and ensure you look great in every photo too. Here are a few essentials to put you on the right track.

Plain tees are classics. Whether you pair them with some cut-off jeans or layer them over a swimsuit, it’s one of the most versatile pieces you can own and wear over and over. Feel free to pack your favourite colours, but you can never go wrong with white, such as this breezy linen tee from Frame.

Whether you’re going someplace hot or cold, it doesn’t matter. Even in the most tropical of destinations, you’re bound to walk into a cold room. For something you can easily layer with other pieces, make sure to pack something neutral-coloured. This beige hooded parka from Zara is not only timeless, its silhouette makes for a chic addition to any outfit.

Comfy Shorts

Sure, jeans look amazing, but they aren’t really practical when you’re travelling. For all the moving around you’ll be doing, you want something much more comfortable than that. Woman Within has a wide selection of travel-friendly shorts that won’t pinch or bunch up even if you’ve been up for hours—perfect for parties at the beach or going on a city tour. Of course, if you’re headed to a colder climate, you can always wear some thermal tights underneath.

Black Dress

If you enjoy checking out the nightlife when travelling, then consider a black dress an essential you simply cannot forget to pack. But you don’t have to bring your body-cons or floor-length maxis. Everlane has a number of tank wrap dresses that are snug, but not too tight to dance in for an entire night. The best part is you can throw on a jacket or layer with a tee under for a daytime look.

Formal-looking Sandals

Sandals may not seem as practical as sneakers or as fashionable as Dr. Martens boots, but they can be worn for just about any occasion. For instance, some of the most luxurious clubs in Paris or Vegas have strict dress codes, including no-trainer policies. If you don’t want to miss out on any of the fun, wear sandals that work well both casual and formal dress codes. Fortunately, they barely take up any luggage space too.

Like we mentioned above, these are just a few of the essentials that you need while travelling, but you can always switch it up depending on your personal preference. Sometimes, packing smart is better than packing light—and this list is a good place to start.
