The Herb Garden Harbour, North Shields

The Herb Garden Harbour

Way back at the beginning of August I took advantage of the sunny weather and whisked myself off to the coast to finally try The Herb Garden Harbour, located 5 minutes from the Royal Quays.

I hadn’t heard much buzz or read any reviews about Herb Garden Harbour prior to my visit but I figured as I like their pizza’s…. i’d be ok, right?

Well when you build yourself up to a delicious pizza you’ve come to expect from the HG gang with the cracking view, imagine the sadness when you find out the Herb Garden Harbour doesn’t sell pizza!

With that hardship out the way we settled in to the pretty surroundings to take in the view while we browsed the menu. With breakfast and brunch items right through to sandwiches and burgers, you’ll definitely find something to whet your whistle. There’s even cake. You can find the full menu HERE on the Herb Garden Harbour Facebook page.

During our visit the outdoor decking was jam packed with al fresco diners and walkers just stopping in for a drink. Inside was split between lunch time visits for food and friendship groups catching up over a couple of glasses of wine.

Both opting for sandwiches, the Moroccan Carrot + Goats Cheese (£5.95) was absolutely delicious. The sweetness of the carrots was offset by the warming Moroccan spices, salty goats cheese and olive tapenade. It was one of those butties that was so tasty you didn’t want to finish it, just to make it last. Quite a simple list of ingredients but it worked.

The Fillet Steak + Caramelised Onion baguette (£7.95) came packed with tender flash fried beef and sweet juicy onions. The bread wasn’t too hard so it meant you could dig right in. We’ve all had baguettes that you can’t get your teeth in, right?

Both sandwiches were served with fresh and salty dough crisps.

We did both think that the sandwich menu lacked a plain / classic option or when you just have a hankering for cheese or ham – it doesn’t have to be boring. I’m sure if that’s what you’re craving, the lovely Herb Garden Harbour staff could whip you something up.

We thoroughly enjoyed our leisurely Saturday afternoon visit for lunch and will most definitely be back. I can’t recommend the Moroccan Carrot + Goats Cheese Sandwich highly enough!

I’d like to go back on a night time to watch the sunset over the Tyne and the Marina while we dine. The evening menu at The Herb Garden Harbour looks good too!
