The Coniston Hotel, Skipton

Coniston Hotel Skipton

The Coniston Hotel is set on a country estate just outside the Yorkshire town of Skipton. Within the grounds you can arrange fishing, shooting, archery, golf, falconry, cycling and off-roading. It’s an outdoorsy hotel with an opulent luxury to it. It has it’s own 24 acre lake and it is a working estate.

When we bought the Land Rover, we were given a half day 4×4 experience day at the Land Rover track which is based at Coniston Hotel near Skipton. We booked up and made a break of it.

With a formal restaurant and a more relaxed lodge serving food, there’s no need to leave the hotel which just goes further to enhance your relaxation in these sprawling grounds.

We were in a luxury double and the room was large, spacious and airy. The bathroom was ginormous! As we were on the ground floor we had our own terrace looking out over the lush grass and the lake beyond. It was wonderful for watching the Geese in flight at dusk. Our Terrace was 2nd from left.

In the Huntsman Lodge, the rich interior decor and tartan carpet surround live open fires and I can just picture myself tucked up there in winter by the fire. The hotel is dog friendly and there were plenty to fuss over in the bar, sitting patiently while their owners ate.

One wall in the Huntsman Lodge is floor to ceiling glass which offers breathtaking views. Sadly on our visit the only thing we could see was clouds, rain, rain and more rain!

The breakfast was a fairly standard offering but I did notice the usual meats / cheese / pastries were missing.

Mr Tramp opted for a full Yorkshire and I had Eggs Benedict with crispy pancetta. It was cooked to perfection and just what we needed before a busy day full of adventure.
